The Angel

“It’s your turn.”

Teacher looked at her with the kindest set of eyes she had ever seen. She got up in her seat, walked to the front and turned to face the class.

Her heart was hammering violently in her chest.

Her body lost the synchronization… half of it was trembling with fear and the other half was paralyzed from the same…

It was her third day in this new school. No friends. No foes.

It was poetry recital day. Kids were supposed bring a piece of poetry of their choice and Recite it in front of the whole class.

For a weird 10-year-old introvert kid, who was always nervous and had serious confidence deficit, this could prove to be fetal.

“Read it”, teacher’s sweet voice almost made her jump.

She looked at the teacher who was smiling like an angel. The same teacher had taught her at summer camp few days back. Seeing her familiar face at the entrance of school was similar to seeing another human face on a planet flooded with aliens.

Her presence made her feel better slightly, but not more than that.

She tried to look hard at the piece of paper but her hands were shaking so hysterically that it was impossible to see the words..let alone read them..

“It’s ok. You can recite tomorrow”, the angel said with the most calming smile ever. And she breathed a sigh of relief, went back to her seat and dug her burning face in her ice-cold hands.

Later that day the teacher called her in an empty class and made her rehearse. She was a motivational speaker in an angelic form. Very kind.

Needless to say next day she survived the poetry recital…
