I am so going to cry now
This book is definitely going to mince my brain.
I spend all day to learn and apply how to format and edit it.Â
By the way I am doing a few things to make book more interesting so that isn’t too bland. That makes everything harder.
When I reach a point where I think okay now this looks like a poetry book I make copies of it in different formats and preview it
Yesterday I decided to try my hands on kindle create.
It loaded my book..and FFFFFFFUUUUHHHH!!!
I was stumped.
The titles broke and scattered on different pages and I couldn’t even find with their shreds flashlight!
Images were weird shades of black and gray, looked like kindle create wanted to do its own artwork on my art.
I literally got up and started pacing. It was kind of a reflex.
Couldn’t muster up courage to look at the disaster on screen.
This has happened thrice..can you believe that??
Every time I start all over again.
May God give me tenacity to stick with my goal.
Funny story, as I am just lying and eating I thought I could be gaining weight.Â
In my head I already imagined myself an over-weight writer with Einstein hair and cookie crumbs on clothes and thick glasses sitting nose. A bit grumpy too. (some of it is true)
But guess what. I check and I actually lost weight.
Umm..i think depression is cancelling out the excess calories.
Well.Â
Okay. I need suggestion from you all since you are my first audience (and only audience).
I read a lot about mailing lists. Does it sound like a good idea to get notified about publishing related details through email??
Because if that’s true I will have to start working on that too.
I will only be notifying about the book release schedule or any changes in price. That’s what I have thought so far.Â
I would like to know if you would want to be part of a mailing list.
Thats all for now. I think I’m hungry again.Â
Maybe it’s coffee time.

Girrrrrllll… I don’t even know how to help you, but if I can help, let me know. I set up to publish with Amazon, but I’m going to attend a class in March on publishing, so I may or may not go the same route as you beforehand.

can you record that class for me. lol
yea self-publishing is very challenging. I have been writing and formatting documents like all my life and I am getting so badly stuck.
choose whatever suits you. 🙂

First, it’s always coffee time.
Second, platform what are you using for the formatting? I use MS Word for mine, and upload that direct to KDP. One crucial thing to remember is to use page breaks to separate your pages, rather than just entering blank lines. You can also set your page size, margins and bleed settings on Word.
Third, Kindle is doesn’t support colour. All images will only show in greyscale. Paper copies of your book can be printed in colour, and other e-book platforms may support colour, but Kindle is b&w only.

yes! all the time!
I use pages. then I export it to word.
yes I am using page breaks I saw it in a tutorial it was actually simple and helpful.
page layout isn’t challenging for me be it word or pages. I got that part covered.
thank you so much. this explains the reason why I had weird block on my images.
I tried a few things and noticed if I add colored images directly to kindle create nothing happens to them. no distortion at all.
and I tried my charcoal drawing. those survived the transfer from pages to word to kindle create. so if I really want to add colored images I can do it directly in kindle create or use charcoal art (as its already greyscale it survives)
thanks you so much for helping. I was in a very panicky state. 🙂

Most kindles are greyscale screens. That could explain the art looking different. However, I think the kindle app supports color. I’ve self-published, but never used .mobi creator software. Also, would definitely join a mailing list about your work. I’m somewhat excited about the prospects of having a copy of your work. And I have a Kindle. Let me give you a thought, since I’ve selfpublished. Just don’t include a bunch of links in the finished result, or what they call an “active table of contents”. Maybe that’s a bridge too far, though, because truthfully, I’d like to have that feature, actually. Hope you get it straight, and very interested in more new posts about the process.

that sounds like the problem. and kindle app does support color. google agrees.
I wrote the whole thing in pages. now I keep converting it to doc then to EPUB. and now trying to work on kindle real. all of this is new to me so there is a lot of trial and error involved.
you are exceptionally supportive thank you so much for that. I personally don’t sign up for e-mail notifications but I was afraid updates might get lost in the wordpress reader. I will try to strike the right balance in this case.
I am missing something here. should I have active table of contents or not??
for chapters I was going to do that to make it easy to navigate.
that is just so kind of you. thanks for this unbelievable level of support 🙂

Oh no that’s so frustrating! I don’t have a Kindle but use to Kindle app on my laptop and it displays color images.
As for mailing lists, personally I never sign up for them just because I don’t like getting a lot of stuff in my inbox.

I don’t have kindle either and I have kindle app on phone. haven’t checked an ebook with images on it yet but internet tells the same. on app you can see colored images.
I have exact same issue that’s why I was reluctant to make one. I don’t like a lot of email notifications. on the other hand it seems to work too as posts get swarmed in WordPress reader.
I might end up making a list with permission of bloggers who want to sign up. I will see where I can reach the right balance when I am working on marketing side of it.
thanks for your input 🙂

I don’t think I can add anything productive but thinking of a short story of your trials and tribulations of everything surrounding done in an almost comedic way could be therapeutic. Almost like the comic strip “Cathy” where…what is it she does? “GACK!”

Ahahah see it could be a mini memoir. And that too funny one.
I looked it up ahahah 😂

I am JUST beginning my journey into self publishing. This is scary!! Good luck!! I sure hope things get better for you!

No no. Dont get scared. I will keep on documenting it so it will be helpful for all of us. I myself am learning something new everyday.
Good thing with self publishing you really have nothing monetary to lose if you are doing everything on your own. With that I think you should give it a shot.
Thank you. 🙂

When helping my Dad produce a book years ago, we were informed by ‘professionals’ to use RTF (rich text format), upon save, so that it transposes easily. I haven’t got a clue if this applies in your case, but if it helps, then great.

Thanks for letting me know I will look into that too as I am trying each and everything so every piece of information is valuable.
Thank you so much 🙂
