If you are not a fan of Sylvia Plath I suggest you skip this one. In few words this book is only novel, a semi-biography written by Sylvia Plath and basically a narration of her downward spiral, covering her #suicide attempts and hospitalization. If you know anything about her life and her writing, you will love it because you will be able to connect the dots easily. But honestly, if this is the first time you are reading this name, or you are in pleasant phase of your life you might throw this book on the nearest wall just after few pages. To my folks it looks like an act of self-immolation. But I told them it’s validating and empowering to me. Sylvia held my hand and took me on a tour of her life that must have looked normal to a passerby (only initially) but silently slipped into the rabbit hole deeper and deeper. At one point she wrote, “it felt dark and safe under there, but the mattress wasn’t heavy enough. I needed about a ton of more weight to make me sleep” That suddenly reminded me of my own words. During a late night phone call, with one of my most patient friends, I said, “i feel like a paper at times, I want someone to put paper weights on my hands and feet so that I don’t fly away” This phenomena is common with people who live with #anxiety The whole book is quite accurate depiction of mental health struggles. Constant self-loathing, a feeling of emptiness, loss of ability to feel joy. One moment you feel you are ok, next you don’t want to live. In her own words, “To the person in the bell jar, blank and stopped as a dead baby." The deeper you descend into the book, the more you admire the accuracy of its title. It’s brilliantly written, the analogies will change your perspective forever. And it’s brutally honest. She didn’t hold back for a moment, even if it would place her in the bad light. I have read, marked, etched few lines in my mind. Whenever I feel I lack words to express my pain, I will pick The Bell Jar and open a random page to freshen my wounds. #thebelljar #bookstagram #sylviaplath #booklover #bookrecommendations #quarantine #bookreview #readersofinstagram #bookclub #depression #bookworm #booksofinstagram

#thesilentpatient has raving reviews all over the cover and internet and everywhere. So it instinctively fell in the next to-read book. The book is a real page turner and style is as fluid as river. I read the whole 336 pages in 24 hours, something I haven’t done in years. It’s a thriller, more of a psychological thriller. But thank God it’s not like one of mainstream modern day thrillers/psychological thrillers, that are hell-bent to prove all the women of the world are losing their minds, after suffering decades of abuse and going on killing spree… well if they are, who is responsible then?? Anyway, this story, on the parallel track, has a man going crazy too!! Yay! Sorry for insensitive gesture but CMON!! It’s like reading same story with changed names or probably little detail. I can read one book and I can safely tell you story of a 10,000 more. It’s becoming an exhausted genre with nothing new to offer to a point where I gave up on my own psychological thriller. This book is different! It’s like you are watching a snake slithering in a maze, but then it suddenly turns and bites its own tail. Lol. You have to read to know what I’m talking about. I would have never imagined the twist in the end, so 10/10 for that. I won’t go on to judge the book. If you want to read a thriller, it won’t disappoint. Far better than gone girl and millennium series (girl who/with/is..) But if you don’t read it, you are not missing out on a literary gem, to be honest. I’m sure I will forget half of the story by tomorrow. #bookstagram #thesilentpatientbyalexmichaelides #alexmichaelides #booklover #bookrecommendations #quarantine #bookreview #readersofinstagram #bookclub #depression #bookworm #booksofinstagram #book #booknerd #bookaddict #thriller #psychologicalthriller #suspense #reader #readers

One day at a time.. Sometimes you need someone to read out your story to you. I have been down, demoralized and disturbed by current situation, just like everyone else. Even though I had far less reasons to feel that way, as compared to the most. Can’t deny the #blessings, but how do we console our mind? Regret and fear has been hitting me everyday. Regret for all the precious time that got wasted because of circumstances that weren’t my fault. And fear of losing more time. Then I talked to unicorn (my close friend) and she did what she does best; read excerpts of my own story to me. We made a list of things I have done in lock-down and surprisingly they were many. Hard to digest because things didn’t go by my plans and dreams. But doesn’t mean my #life got wasted. It’s still a challenge to keep your mind on a constant #positive track, you keep losing your footing. But if we take one step at a time. #onedayatatime . One little thing we wanted to do or learn or just enjoy. I have a feeling we won’t be be regretting this time horribly. History has proved we have seen calamities but every-time even if our lives were bulldozed to ground by fate… we rose up and started building all over again. Have a great day! #lifeisgood #lifelessons #blog #blogger #lockdown #lockdown2020 #lifeinquarantine #QuarantineLife #writerscommunity #writer #writing #positivevibes #photography #hope #mentalhealth #mentalhealthmatters #anxiety

Checked another box from must-read-books list. And I wish I had done it at least 15 to 20 years back. But no, maybe I would have hated it if I read it under an obligation rather than to mentally isolate myself in a group quarantine situation. #Tokillamockingbird by #HarperLee has been part of academics in a lot of countries but it wasn’t for us, I’m guessing because of mention of rape. Just guessing. It’s odd and funny when you can relate to story published in 1960, but a lawyer dad, curious little girl who questions the norm, directs the story home after every few pages. Well. It’s a perfect story that’s written to teach you reality of life and people with the seasoning of humour and innocence. Written from the perspective of a child brings clarity without overwhelming the reader, even to the sensitive subjects like inequality, racism, rape, cultural norm regarding gender roles and adolescence. The story gracefully treads the blade without hurting the story or laying a single scratch on the narration style. Never once crossed circumference of child’s lens. Neither does it sugarcoat reality. This part is astonishing. If you haven’t read it yet, please do. For me, this book is one of my favourite classics ever. #bookstagram #booklover #bookrecommendations #quarantine #bookreview #readersofinstagram #bookclub #depression #bookworm #booksofinstagram #booknerd #bookaddict #thriller #psychologicalthriller #suspense #reader #readers #artinquarantine #creative #photography #editing #animation #booksofinstagram #books #bookstagrammer #graphicdesign #graphics #digitalart

Movie Review: Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind. Enchanting music! Can’t get over “almost lover” and “everybody’s gotta learn sometime” The story revolves around an impulsive lovely girl, a serious nice guy, a girl living her déjà vu, the head memory eraser, and human version of a puppy (Mark Ruffalo), later 3 being the eraser guys. An absolute visual treat! It’s a bitter-sweet dream, you love it and you are scared of losing it. And a beautiful depiction of human idiocy. We like to play with fire. We take Avid interest in anything that’s polar opposite of what we are. We want to take risk but we can’t handle it. Either we say, “Ouch! It’s hurting me now” or we say “this is boring it was a bad idea!” We crave for people when we have lost them already. When we had them we were looking for all the possible flaws, we thought we deserve better, and then we wanted out!! And now when we are out, we are lost! We want everything back. God must laugh at us!! What displeased creatures we are. The crux of the movie is that even if you manage to remove traces of every memory still you cannot remove love, love always returns to its home. Amazing execution of concept. How they dodged between memories in imagination didn’t make me dizzy for a nanosecond because it was flowing peacefully in unison with the reality. I didn’t sense chaos at all. My favorite scene:- Joel and Clem sing “Row row row your boat gently on the stream. Merrily merrily merrily merrily life is but a dream”… and it starts raining..it was magical! And I love CLEMENTINE!!! . . #cinephile #cinema #eternalsunshineofthespotlessmind #movie #movies #moviequotes #moviereview #review #reviews #jimcarrey #katewinslet #moviebuff #film #writerscommunity #writersofinstagram #writers #writersnetwork
